Newsletter August 2018
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you have all had a lovely summer. I am writing to let you know about some work that has been completed during the holidays and to welcome everyone back to school for the 2018/19 academic year.
Over the holidays a lot of work has been done to improve school security and safety. The fire escape has been removed, the decking outside TC’s room has been removed and resurfaced, a new fire alarm system has been installed, an indoor water cooler has been installed and a door code system has been installed.
As you know, when I arrived in September it became apparent that the fire alarm did not work across the school. Working with the LA premises team, we put temporary arrangements in place until it could be replaced. The new system is impressive. It is linked to the new door code system so that doors will automatically respond to the alarm and has a separate lockdown alarm system.
The new door system will make a huge difference to the school. The door codes work with staff ID badges. They are programmed electronically so there will be times during the day, such as break, when the doors will be open. At no time will anyone be able to enter the building without an ID swipe badge. The pupils’ movement around the school will be limited which means that once in a building they will not be able to leave without an adult. If a pupil needs to go to the toilet or the office during a lesson, a card is available for them to use which is programmed just to open the doors they will need. Emergency exit buttons are in place and the link with the fire system and central computer control ensures that doors will never be closed during an emergency situation or fire alarm.
