Physical Education aims to provide broad learning experiences across a range of sporting contexts. The goal is to provide opportunities to develop health and fitness, skill and team work while establishing a balance between participation and competition.
Key Stage 2
In Key Stage Two children’s skills are developed through a range of contexts: games, gym, dance, athletics, swimming, and outdoor and adventurous activity (OAA). Children are also encouraged to reflect on their own performance as well as that of others, giving constructive feedback on how to improve.
Key Stage Two also benefits from the Sports Premium. Set up in 2013, the Sports Premium is awarded to primary aged pupils with a view to increase participation in sports at grass roots level, while improving the health, fitness and well-being of children under the age of 12. The funding is used by schools to invest in equipment, training and additional opportunities which help to broaden the curriculum for children.
Key Stages 3 & 4
In Key Stage Three, the boys are taught in the six contexts they began in Key Stage 2. As the children progress through the key stage they begin to gather evidence towards an entry level qualification – shown through their ability, development, reflections and capabilities in a coaching environment.
As the boys progress through to Key Stage 4 their PE provision moves towards college facilities and completing the necessary work for their entry level qualification.
